| Water
clay has taken millions of years to form. There are endless
varieties of water clay that have formed all over our planet. We offer a fine
grey water clay for sculpting and mold making. It has a high
degree of plasticity. This means it will not crumble or fall apart as you
work it. Plastiline is another kind of clay. It has oil and other
additives that keep it from drying out. This is clay as
it comes from the earth, an all natural product, unadulterated, just the way the good lord
created it perfect for our use. Water clay will dry out if left to stand for long
periods in the open air.
Store your water clay in a covered container with a damp cloth over the
surface of the clay. Also cover your work with a damp cloth or plastic
wrap if you have to walk away from it for more than a few minutes. The
clay will shrink if it starts to dry out. This may cause distortion or
cracking so be sure to keep it damp until you can make a mold of
your work.
Above I have used a toothed scraper to take down the the major bumps
and roughness of a clay blanket for a mold I am making. Next I am using a smoothing steel to
complete the smoothing operation. This is the procedure you would use in
making a blanket mold as described in Dan
Does It 7.
